The argument goes like this: Which Muslim country are you even talking about? The ones that vet your khutbah? The ones that restrict enjoining good and forbidding evil? The ones normalizing relationships with an oppressive state? At least in the West, you're still free to practice, to preach, to establish your own prayers. And honestly, some of that is fair. Some Muslim countries do restrict religious speech. Normalization is real. We're not going to pretend otherwise. But there's a word in that argument doing a lot of heavy lifting: "still."
